Profile

Dr McBride treats both paediatric and adult patients and has a special interest in reconstructive surgery of the shoulder and elbow including arthroscopic shoulder surgery, rotator cuff repair, instability surgery, joint replacement surgery, tendon transfers and ligament repair, nerve decompression surgery and upper limb trauma.


Dr Andrew McBride is a Queensland trained Orthopaedic Surgeon who has completed interstate and international subspecialty fellowship training in Shoulder, Elbow and Upper Limb reconstructive surgery in Melbourne and France.  Dr Andrew McBride was educated at the University of Queensland graduating with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy in 2002. He went on to medical school at the University of Tasmania to complete a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery and was awarded the Orthopaedic Fellowship Prize.  During this time, Dr McBride worked part time as a Sports Physiotherapist under Peter Eckhardt - Australian Olympic Team Physiotherapist and worked as a Sports Physiotherapist for the World Championship Tour for Surfing events.   


Dr McBride completed his Orthopaedic Surgery Training with the Royal Australian College of Surgeons throughout many centres in Queensland, including the Gold Coast University Hospital, Toowoomba Hospital,  The Royal Brisbane Hospital, Queensland Children’s Hospital and the Princess Alexandra Hospital under Professor Mark Ross.  After completion of Orthopaedic Surgical Training, Dr McBride travelled to Annecy, France to complete a Shoulder Fellowship at the Alps Surgery Institute in advanced shoulder arthroscopy (key surgery surgery) under Dr Laurent La Fosse. Dr McBride returned to Australia to undertake further subspecialty training in shoulder, elbow and upper limb surgery with the Melbourne Orthopaedic Group under Mr Greg Hoy and Mr Eugene Ek.  This fellowship focused on the management of shoulder and elbow conditions in amateur and professional athletes and joint replacement surgery in both young and older adults. After a period of practice in Australia, Dr McBride completed a further Fellowship training at the Santy Orthopaedic Institute in Lyon, France under Professor Lionel Neyton focusing on the shoulder instability surgery as well as shoulder joint replacement and arthroscopic rotator cuff repair.   


Dr McBride conducts local, interstate and international research into shoulder and elbow surgery. He has publications in peer reviewed journals and presents at national and international meetings. Dr McBride has worked as an associate lecturer at Queensland University, Griffith University and is a current Honorary Adjunct Assistant Professor at Bond University.     


Dr McBride works with a number of sporting bodies and organisations including Australian Football League (AFL) teams, National Rugby League (NRL) teams, Rugby Union, Surf Life Saving, Professional Surfing and various other sports. He enjoys working with both amateur and professional athletes and patients from all walks of life.   Dr McBride was born in southeast Queensland, is married and has three young children. He is devoted to his family, enjoys an active lifestyle and feels privileged to be able to contribute to the healthcare of the Queensland and Northern New South Wales community.
