Shoulder Tendon Transfers

Shoulder tendon transfers are surgical treatment options for a select cohort of  patients that have large irreparable rotator cuff tears.

Latissimus doris transfer for irrepairable subscapularis tear

The latissimus dorsi can be released and reattached through key hole surgery on to the foot plate of the torn subscapularis. An open incision is required in the axilla region to mobilise the tendon.

Lower trapezius tendon transfer for massive irrepairable posterior superior rotator cuff tears

The lower trapezius has a similar line of pull to the posterior rotator muscles and can be transferred with the assistance of a bridging allograft to improve shoulder strength and function.
